This Privacy Policy explains how World Choir (“we”, “us”, or “our”), a company established in Portugal, European Union, collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the World Choir website and app (the “Service”), including participation in global events, the community map, Daily Acts of Peace, World Chain, Photo Book and Memory contributions, Creator Foundations donations, and related features.
By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who we are
World Choir is operated by a company established in Portugal, European Union. We run the platform that coordinates and visualizes a global singing moment, community participation, real-world connection features such as World Chain, and optional charitable giving through Creator Foundations.
For privacy questions, contact us at worldchoirapp@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to run the Service. This may include:
2.1 Participation and identity
- Device identifier — a random ID stored in your browser or device to recognize your participation across sessions.
- Display name — the name you choose to appear with in the World Choir community.
- Voice Number — the unique participation number assigned when you pledge, used to identify your Voice in features such as World Chain.
- Participation location — the city and country you enter when you pledge to sing or update your location. This is not your precise GPS address unless you explicitly provide coordinates in a feature that requests them.
- Event participation — whether you pledged to sing, practice activity, onboarding progress, and passport-related achievements stored for your account.
2.2 Community and social features
- Promise submissions — optional text you submit as part of your World Choir promise.
- Pass the World — invitation activity linked to your device and participation city.
- Daily Acts of Peace — completion status and related engagement data for acts you choose to complete. Personal reflections remain private to you and administrative review where applicable.
- Passport and history — stamps, milestones, and journey progress derived from your real activity in the app.
2.3 World Chain
- Chain participation — which World Chains you start, join, follow, or advance, including timestamps and destination countries or cities required by a chain.
- Connection attempts — when you try to connect another Voice (including incorrect attempts and temporary cooldowns), so the chain can operate fairly and securely.
- Public chain display — for Voices on a chain, we may show Voice Number, country, and city (not personal names) on chain progress views so others can follow the route.
- Follow activity — that you opened or followed a chain, used for lightweight follower counts.
2.4 Photos, notes, and visual memories
-
World Chain Photo Book — if you choose to contribute after participating in a chain, you may optionally submit:
- a selfie or photo you take or select; and/or
- a short personal note (subject to a character limit).
- Memory photos — after the live event, if Memory is available, you may optionally upload community photos and captions. Those contributions may appear in the public Memory feed according to the rules of that feature (including any lifetime or cooldown limits).
- Photos you upload may contain likeness information. Only submit photos of yourself, or photos you have the right to share. Do not upload images of others without appropriate permission.
2.5 Donations and Creator Foundations
- Donation details — amount, currency, selected foundation or project, optional message, and whether you give anonymously.
- Donation location context — your World Choir participation city and country may be associated with a donation for transparency and reporting.
- Payment processing — payments are handled by Stripe. World Choir does not store full card numbers on our servers.
2.6 Creator / Members accounts
- If you are a Creator Foundation operator, we store your login email, foundation profile information, images, mission text, projects, and workspace activity needed to manage your public foundation page and Members portal.
2.7 Map sponsors and partnerships
- Public sponsor or partnership logos and profile information shown on the map or Daily Acts are provided for display as part of the Service. Interaction metrics used for Owner reporting are aggregated or operational and are not used for advertising profiles about you.
2.8 Technical and usage data
- Basic technical logs from our hosting provider (for example request timing, errors, and security events).
- Browser or device type needed to deliver the Service correctly.
- Local storage and session data required for app state, preferences, and performance.
3. Information we do not collect
- We do not record or store your voice, microphone audio, or live video during practice or live events in the current version of the Service, except where you separately and voluntarily upload a photo or similar media in a feature that asks for it (such as Photo Book or Memory).
- We do not require your phone number for general participation.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not invent Photo Book photos or notes for you. Empty photo frames or blank notes mean nothing was submitted or content was removed.
4. How we use your information
We use information to:
- Register and display your participation on the global map and community features.
- Run synchronized event experiences, including countdowns, practice mode, and live event features.
- Operate World Chain, including matching eligible Voices, showing chain progress, and storing completed-chain history.
- Host and display optional Photo Book and Memory contributions you submit.
- Process donations and show verified fundraising totals for Creator Foundations.
- Operate passport stamps, Daily Acts, Pass the World, and other engagement features.
- Maintain Creator Foundation profiles and Members login access.
- Moderate user-generated content when necessary for safety, legality, or community standards (including removal of Photo Book photos or notes).
- Protect the Service against abuse, fraud, and technical failures.
- Improve reliability, performance, and user experience.
- Comply with legal obligations.
5. What others can see
World Choir is a public community experience. Depending on your choices and the feature you use:
- Your city and country may be visible on the public map and aggregated statistics.
- Your display name may appear in community-facing areas linked to your participation.
- On World Chain, other users may see Voice Numbers, countries, and cities along a chain’s route. Personal names are not the primary identity shown on chain progress tables.
- On a chain’s Photo Book, if you submit a selfie and/or note, those submissions may be visible to anyone who opens that Photo Book, together with country, city, and Voice Number for that entry.
- On Memory (when unlocked), photos and captions you share may be visible in the community Memory experience.
- Donations may appear as anonymous or with a display name you provide.
- Creator Foundation profiles you publish are visible on the Donate page when active.
We do not publish your exact street address, private contact details, or payment card data.
6. Photo Book and Memory content
Photo Book and Memory contributions are optional. Completing a World Chain connection does not require uploading a photo or writing a note.
- If you submit a photo, we store the image file and display it in the relevant Photo Book or Memory surfaces.
- If you submit a note or caption, we store and display the text you provided.
- If you skip photo or note, your participant card may still appear where participation requires it, with an empty photo area and/or no note text.
- World Choir may remove a photo, note, or entire contribution if it appears unlawful, harmful, infringing, or otherwise inappropriate, or if required for safety or legal reasons. Removal of a photo returns the public Photo Book square to the empty placeholder state; removal of a note leaves that area blank publicly.
- You may request deletion of your Photo Book or Memory content by contacting us (see Section 9).
7. Legal bases (EEA / UK users)
As a company based in Portugal (EU), we process personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Portuguese law. Where applicable, our legal bases include:
- Contract — to provide the Service you request.
- Legitimate interests — to secure, improve, and operate the platform, including public community features you choose to use.
- Consent — where required, for example optional photo uploads, notes, and similar voluntary contributions.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information by law.
8. How we share information
We may share information only as needed to operate the Service:
- Stripe — payment processing for donations.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — secure storage and delivery of the Service (including Vercel and cloud storage used for application data and uploaded media).
- Other users of the Service — public community displays described in Section 5, including World Chain progress and optional Photo Book / Memory contributions you submit.
- Creator Foundation recipients — donation amounts and supporter display preferences needed for fundraising transparency.
- Legal and safety — if required by law, court order, or to protect users and the platform.
We do not share information with advertisers for targeted advertising.
9. Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law. Participation records, World Chain history, donation records, and Creator Foundation data may be retained for reporting, audit, and operational integrity.
Photo Book entries associated with a chain may be retained for as long as that chain’s archive remains part of the Service, unless removed earlier through moderation or a valid deletion request. Memory photos may be subject to feature-specific lifetimes (for example time-limited visibility) in addition to storage rules.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion, subject to legal and operational requirements (including removal of photos or notes you uploaded).
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (for example by not uploading optional media, or by requesting removal of content you already submitted).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Portugal, this is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD).
You can update your participation location from your Profile. For other requests, including Photo Book or Memory content removal, email us at worldchoirapp@gmail.com.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). Do not upload photos of children without appropriate parental or guardian authority where required by law. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
12. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than Portugal through our hosting and payment providers. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers. We take reasonable steps to protect information in line with this policy.
13. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encrypted connections, access controls for administrative areas, and hashed passwords for Members accounts. Uploaded media is stored with access controls appropriate to the Service. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
